I have been involved in baseball for many years, and since retiring from the Police force, now have time to research and enjoy my pasttime of Baseball, and just about anything connected to this great game!
Frosty Forrest Kennedy was minor league icon. Kennedy is the only minor league player who hit .411 in 1948 and .410 in 1953. Kennedy also hit 60 homer runs in 1956. Thus Kennedy is the only player who hit both over .400 and slugging 60 homers.
Frosty was my father. I remember when he would come to Southern California to hold try outs for Canadian teams. Only a couple dozen players would be asked to go up to Canada for a formal tryout. Frosty also started the first womans basket ball league before the WNBA started(it lasted two seasons). In his later years he ran youth BMX track for several years.
My dad played with Frosty - when we saw Frosty's information at the Hall of Fame, he told me some stories about him. My dad said he was a great teammate and a great guy to hang out with. I think he mentioned that Frosty told him he could more money in the lower leagues than the higher ones....he would get a gas station in town and the locals would all go there to spend time with him - and spend money. Not sure about that part of the story but I think it was Frosty (he also mentioned this about a teammate named Russ Burns)...
