New Westminster Charles VanSchoyck

Charles VanSchoyck is in the Hall of fame for Azusa Pacific University for his strong college career.  VanSchoyck played 70 games for the New Westminster Frasers.  1974 was VanSchoyck`s only professional season. I contact Azusa Pacific and they forwarded my request for Charles to answer my questions but as of yet I have not heard from VanSchoyck.

Henry Robbie Robinson of the New Westminster Frasers

Henry Robinson known as Robbie played 60 games for the New Westmnister Frasers.  After retirement Robinson has gone into acting.  I have so far not been able to contact Robbie.

I am awaiting replies from George Benson a lawyer in Snohomish, WA and Larry Brooks of Portland Oregon.  Much of the book is complete with some error correcting and inserting of footnotes,  Also awainting permission to publish some photos from the Vancouver Sun and Province as well as the Lewiston Morning Tribune.

New Westminter Frasers new manager Greg Werdick

Greg Werdick took over the reins of the New Westminster Fraser part way into the season. Werdick played minor league baseball from 1965 to 1972 in the Chicago Cubs and then the San Diego Padres organizations.  1974 appears to be Werdick`s only year of managing and the end of his professional baseball career.

Now I have finished my 3rd Brooks novel I want to locate “Pressure Points”. Larry Brooks has a website: storyfix.com that a novelist hopeful should check-out.  As yet Brooks has not made a baseball player one of his heroes.

New Westminster Frasers' Jeff Cox made the Majors

Jeff Cox who played 49 games for both the 1974 Portland Mavericks and the New Westminster FrasersCox in 1978 played for the Vancouver Canadians and in 1980  made to the Majors with the Oakland A's.  Cox went onto manage in the Minors and in 2000 mid season Felipe Alou brought Cox up to the Montreal Expos as a coach. Since 2007 Cox has been the 3rd base coach of the Chicago White Sox going into 38th year in baseball.

Dean Taylor built the expansion New Westminster Frasers with tryout camps and working with the Portland Mavericks.  Althought the New Westminster Frasers had a losing season they had a better record than two of the other teams.

The New Westminster Frasers one year Club

In January 1974 the Northwest League expanded to eight teams and the New Westminster Frasers were born.  I was an idea of Dean Taylor a 23 year old with his friend Mike Manning who felt that they had the ability to run a baseball franchise.  Ove r1974 they proved they had the knowledge to stock and run a team.

Brooks is a well known thriller author of books such as Darkness Bound and Bait and Switch. Brooks had pitched five years of professional ball. Starting with the California Angels, then the Washington Senators which became the Texas Rangers organizations. Larry`s last pro year was 1974 with the independent New Westminster Frasers and the Portland Mavericks.
